Thermal Efficiency is the name of the game and we came to play. cp-e™ has always strived to be innovators in the automotive industry and we have created a product that separates our FMIC from all other solutions.

At the heart of the FMIC, we feature a 3” thick bar and plate design that is capable of supporting up to 750hp. We also provide replacement piping for pre and post-intercooler piping. The 135i/335i intercooler is measured at 5.5" x 6" x 21" which is a substantial upgrade from the stock unit. We opted for this size to maximize surface area while minimizing the cutting required for the end-user to install. While there is no trimming required for the 335i, on the 135i application, we require a little cutting for proper fitment. This is detailed in our installation guide. Our FMIC posted a staggering 83% efficiency @6800 RPM whereas the stock unit was 58%. We could say our intercooler is 95% efficient but that isn’t a relative portion of the test and we believe it’s misleading.

In addition to this FMIC, we have also engineered an oil-cooling unit that is mounted on the FMIC to alleviate all notions of the N54 stock oil cooling not being sufficient under heavy driving. So for the price of the competition you also get an oil-cooling unit on top of an upgraded intercooler.

With the growing need to provide qualitative data, cp-e™ has made it a priority to do vigorous testing on our FMIC and provide the public with a full synopsis of how our FMIC performs under various driving conditions. To capture this information, we used our BlackBox logging utility. It’s a telemetry logging system that uses both a 3D accelerometer and a GPS to indicate vehicle speed and position over time. Additionally, the system features 8 analog input channels which have been populated with a series of temperature and pressure sensors so we can see exactly how the intercooler performs under real conditions!

Uprated Intercooler for BMW 135, 335 and 1M

This uprated intercooler has been designed for the BMW 135 and 335 equipped with the N55 engine (single turbo), and 1M equiped with the N54 (twin turbo) 6 cylinder engine.

Our criteria was to achive maximum efficiency whilst retaining a simple fitment. With our testing results indicating increased cooling of up to 30 degrees centigrade and the ability to install this on your driveway at home in under one hour, we have just what we wanted.

After considerable trials with different intercoolers cores, we found that the most efficient for these models, was a core of bar and plate design, and along with an overall increase in dimensions we have been able to improve the cooling ability and reduce the pressure loss across when compared to factory intercooler. In the construction we use CNC machined bayonet couplers which allow an easy plug and play install. The intercooler is supplied with easy to follow instructions and all the parts required.

HPF Front Mount Intercoolers

We designed the HorsepowerFreaks 135i/335i intercoolers to set the high bar in performance, reliability, ease of installation, durability and visual appeal.

Our intercoolers are 87% larger than the factory intercooler and pick up a sizeable 10-30rwhp at just 11psi while showing even greater gains when other power adders are used.

These are the largest aftermarket intercoolers on the market for the 135i and 335i that fit within the factory location. Our cores are 20.25 inches wide by 5.75 inches tall and 7 inches deep for a massive 815 total cubic inches.

Our intercoolers are also one of the easiest to install (in less than one hour) as they utilize the factory mounting tabs, factory c-clip couplers and don't require any silicon couplers or extra hose clamps. Our intercoolers are the only ones that utilize the sway bar mounting tabs to create a structural reinforcement that holds the intercooler tightly in place and our intercoolers fit within the factory grill and do not interfere with the radiator airflow.

Our HPF intercoolers drastically drop the intake air temps without adding any additional turbo lag over your stock intercooler. Lower intake temperatures result in greater power delivery and the harder you run your car, the larger the gains you're going to see with our intercoolers. Many turbo diesel models are fitted with a factory air intercooler to reduce engine intake air temperatures. As with all mass produced cars thought the manufacturer has to strike a balance between size/quality of the components they fit and the cost implications.

By increasing the size and / or capacity of the intercooler on your turbo diesel model you further cool the intake charge which increses power and throttle response and helps offset heat soak so the car's ECU maintains maximum power for longer (when inlet temps. exceed a certain level the car's ECU cuts back power temporarily as safety measure).

On an E46 330 D you can expect around 20 - 25 bhp increase by fitting this uprated intercooler.
